If there is dirt in the mold, we should clean it in time. Excessive dirt accumulation will not only affect the quality of the product and improve the defect rate of the product, but also return the mold itself, thus affecting the production efficiency of the product.
According to plastic today, the ultrasonic cleaning machine can clean all the sediment in the mold, with faster efficiency and better effect, which can effectively extend the life of the mold and reduce the cost.
Like other machines, injection moulds require a huge investment of capital, which means the maintenance and maintenance of the moulds is very important. The plastic injection mold must be cleaned regularly, removing all sediment from the surface and remaining plastic from the vents without damaging the tool. According to various experimental studies, ultrasonic cleaning can save time and perform better than other cleaning technologies.
PAM USES 20 injection molding machines with a maximum clamping force of 950 tons to provide a wide range of products for the automotive, home, lawn and garden markets. "Many of our molds have interchangeable modules to make different parts," Roger Wheeler, PAM's tooling manager, said in an interview.
We can take the module out and pull it back, loosen the insert and put the mould away so that we can clean the insert thoroughly, remove the sediment and unclog the gas. For some molds, we have to take out each individual insert and clean it. The materials and the type of mold we use determine how far we need to separate them in the ultrasonic cleaner."
"The biggest advantage of ultrasound is that it saves time," wheeler said. Hand washing the mold is very time-consuming and some areas are difficult to clean. No matter how carefully manual cleaning is done, it is impossible to clean the intricate positions, vents, and other mold surface configurations. We use a biodegradable water-soluble liquid that gets into cracks and crevices to loosen debris and gas, which makes cleaning easier. The average working time of the ultrasonic cleaning equipment is 30 minutes, while the manual cleaning time can be up to several hours."
"Using ultrasonic equipment also allows mold technicians to perform multiple tasks simultaneously," wheeler added. "when some mold parts are cleaned in the ultrasonic equipment, workers can clean the mold base, which makes the cleaning faster and ensures higher quality parts are produced."
Ultrasonic cleaning USES a process called cavitation (the internal breakdown of billions of microscopic bubbles) to clean surfaces immersed in a cleaning fluid. The bubble is generated through a transducer connected with the lower side of the stainless steel water tank driven by a generator. When the transducer is activated, it vibrates at a rate of thousands of Hertz per second, making the bottom of the tank a film of bubbles.
The Elmasonic x-tra Basic 550 allows customers to adjust the vibration frequency based on the strength and toughness of the plastic sediment, ranging from 25 to 45kHz, PAM said. "For very persistent deposits, our operators can use a 'pulse mode,' which has a much greater cleaning capability," wheeler said. This mode is also used to remove bubbles from the new ultrasonic cleaning fluid, which can quickly remove the gas from the cavitation bubbles."
In addition to the frequency and pulse, the operation panel allows the operator to set the cleaning cycle and solution temperature. The setting and actual parameters will be displayed on the panel. When the setting temperature is reached, the machine will start running, and it can stop running automatically after the equipment has been running continuously for 12 hours or when the solution temperature reaches 90℃. PAM chose a insulated tank cover, which reduces noise and evaporation of the cleaning fluid.
"If you want to extend the life of an injection molding machine, not only do you want to keep the machine clean, but you also want to keep the mold clean," wheeler added. (translated by yan xia jing, Beijing university of chemical technology)
